Song: Hillsong - God is Able
Here's the harmony part for the chorus & the bridge, I am so sorry I promised the verse but I totally forgot about it while I was recording!
I hope the tutorial's not too fast and it'll be helpful to those trying to harmonise with this song.

[Video] Lincoln Brewster - Love the Lord
Song: Lincoln Brewster - Love the Lord
We sound like we're hurrying to catch a last train, and apologies for the guitar (a Taylor) which sounds horrible here because of my mic which isn't very good at picking up live music.
This song's quite simple to harmonise, but the main problem with it is that every note has to be extremely precise or it'll just sound like a mess!
Have a listen, and try it out first! (Considering our practice with "This is my Desire", I don't think you really, really need me to split the part and the melody before you can try this out right?)
Meld away!

In Loving Memory of Mummy (1952 - 2011)
Song: Hillsong - Believe
This is a song dedicated to our mum who passed away on 18 September. She was one who declared God's truth (loudly) in every situation, be it good of bad and in every prayer she made. Her favourite one-word response to every piece of good news or comment was always, "Good!"
Through this song, 'Believe' we choose to say that God is still good and even in dark moments, He is strong enough in our weakness and we believe that He knows best.
Thanks for listening!
(Thank you Thomas for helping us with the guitar!)

[Audio] Starfield - Hosanna (Individual Parts)
Continued from the previous post... Here are some aids to help you with 11 Sept's homework.
Here's Starfield's Hosanna in the key of G.
This post contains:
1. Hosanna (Melody + 2 Harmony Parts)
2. Hosanna (Melody)
3. Hosanna (Lower Harmony)
4. Hosanna (Higher Harmony)
The higher harmony is just for fun, and is not part of the homework. It was added just to show how many variations there really can be with parts! Harmonies are not static and fixed, so have fun experimenting (just don't sing out of tune and insist it's a harmony hahaha) :P

[Audio] Hillsong - Hosanna (Individual Parts)
This is an exciting post with aids to 11 September's vocal class's homework! Hearing these out will probably help you A LOT with the homework. So take your time to listen to these recordings!
The following 3 'videos' will be
1. Hosanna (Melody + Harmony)
2. Hosanna (Melody)
3. Hosanna (Harmony)
The reason why I stated "Hillsong" in the title is because Hillsong's version is in the key of E. In addition, I also did another set of recordings for Starfield's Hosanna which is in the key of G. (See next post!)
Have fun & meld away!

[Update] Song: Starfield - Hosanna
Hi, while you are practicing Hosanna this week, just wanted to share an upbeat version of "Hosanna" from Starfield. For your listening pleasure!
If you have mastered the harmony, try singing the harmony along with the song :) The true test is being able to sing the harmony even if the background music is noisier or if the key is different! (Starfield performs it in G instead of E, therefore for girls the melody is slightly too high in this version, and so you HAVE to sing parts)

[Update] Sing Whenever & Wherever You Can!
Hi, hope all of you are taking every opportunity (in the shower/ in the car/ while walking home) to practise your vocals. Even humming a tune is useful- If you can hum in pitch, you can sing that note in pitch too!
God bless,
Lynette
Anyway, two more videos are up!

[Video] Hillsong - Adonai
Song: Hillsong - Adonai
Here's the harmony video tutorial for Adonai. It is a mix of the melody & harmony line so it might get extremely confusing (or you might end up singing the melody without realising...) A full harmony-only part sounds really awkward... hence the mixed-harmony part. Please replay to hear the part over and over.
Be sensitive to what you're singing, and remember to listen to yourself. If you're using an iphone, record yourself (i.e. using the voice memo function under 'Utilities') and play it back to know how your voice texture really sounds like when recorded. With that, you can really improve your breathing technique/pitching!
God Bless!
Cheers,
Louisa
______________________________________
The chorus of 'Adonai' uses mostly the third-down harmony. Not every word needs to be harmonised though. The focus and beauty of the Harmony come at the swell - "For the world will FADE AWAY, still my song TO YOU REMAINS", in which the harmony really brings out the lyrics and message of the song at that point.
Cheers,
Lynette

______________________________
Hi, this is us appearing for the first time together in a video. The song 'Hosanna' is the first song which we will cover in the Vocal Harmony lesson as both the chorus and the bridge use a simple third-down harmony 95% of the time. (Only the last line of the Chorus and the lower notes of the Bridge uses some fourth-down harmony.)
Do remember that in singing parts, it is not fundamentally about memorising an alternative tune. Memorisation without sensitivity to the harmony of the individual notes may just result in you composing an alternative melody (which is not what you are aiming for).
Cheers,
Lynette

[Video] Planetshakers - Nothing is Impossible
Song: Planetshakers - Nothing is Impossible
One of my favourite songs! It has a pretty simple harmony line and is rather manageable with some practice! 1 melody with 2 harmony lines, so pick the one that fits your range comfortably.
Have fun experimenting!

Louisa

[Thoughts] Video: Wrong Worship
Hey, we came across a rather thought-provoking video. It comprises of a mash-up of a couple of worship songs that we all know very well. It really spoke to us about how sometimes we sing what we don't entirely mean. Just a clip for thought...
God bless,

[Audio] 4 Sep Lesson Review
Hi, this is my attempt at demonstrating what is the front (chest) voice and the back (head) voice. The chorus of the song in front voice can get a bit pitchy and I apologise that I sound as if I'm shouting (it is a strain!). Of course, do remember that ideally, one should use a combination of both voices. Take time to explore your own voice! :)
Cheers,
Lynette
This video is supplementary to the vocal lesson conducted on 4th of September.

[Video] Hillsong - First & the Last (Bridge)
Song: Hillsong - First and the Last (Bridge only)
Pitch is really essential in the bridge as it is the most climatic part of the song, so practice well & don't be discouraged if you feel like you can't seem to get it!
Have fun!

[Video] New Life Worship - Counting on God
Song: New Life Worship - Counting on God
Here's a rather simple harmony line with a generally third-up approach, and a little tidbit at the end about the importance of listening to who you're singing with, or yourself!
Have fun experimenting & learning!
Louisa
